ExtremeXOS is the software or the network operating system used in newer Extreme Networksnetwork switches.[1] It is Extreme Networks second generation operating system after the VxWorks based ExtremeWare operating system.
ExtremeXOS is based on the Linux kernel and BusyBox.[2] In July 2008 legal action was taken against Extreme Networks due to alleged violation of the GNU General Public License.[3] Three months later the lawsuit was settled out of court.[4]
With the improvements to FM and ring modulation and wavetable synthesis as icing on the cake, this is a solid upgrade that successfully avoids any sense of bloat or feature–creep. Great stuff!The case for upgrade could be less clear if you’re happy with Omnisphere as it is, but for many users the included sounds and samples are every bit as important as the synthesis gains. Omnisphere 2 best sounds. And even if you haven’t yet explored all the existing filters and effects, this shouldn’t rule out the appreciation of more. In adding audio import capability, Spectrasonics have opted for a relatively basic approach and although I applaud the simplicity and ease of use, I did feel a few more options would have reaped great rewards, especially where loop handling is concerned.The lengths Spectrasonics went to to capture sounds really are impressive.Of the other synthesis updates, the improved granular engine is a superb tool for dismembering samples and plucking weird textures from them. This is especially true when ‘more’ involves exotic processes such as flavouring samples with the essence of rustling leaves or coins dropping into water.
